Canairy now speaks Spanish

Version 1.5.34 is out on Android and iOS. Three things changed that you'll notice.

Every screen speaks Spanish

Canairy is now bilingual. You pick your language as the first step of setup, or change it anytime in Settings, and the whole app follows — Today, Trends, Settings, location details, the guide, sharing, and the alerts themselves.

That last part matters more than it sounds. The text messages and push notifications go out in your language too, with air-quality categories written properly ("Moderada", not a machine-translated approximation) and dates formatted the way you'd expect to read them.

The in-app Help guide is fully translated as well, and while we were in there we rewrote it to cover the things people actually ask about: the guided setup, the notification bell and its history, and how to change your language.

Tap any section to find out where the number comes from

Air quality data is messier than a single number suggests. Two sensors a mile apart can disagree. A government monitor and a neighbor's PurpleAir measure different things in different ways, and sometimes there's no sensor nearby at all and you're looking at an estimate.

We'd been hiding all of that. Now there's a small info button on each section of a location's detail page — the AQI number, smoke alerts, pollutants, weather, the hourly and daily forecast, sources, and pollen — plus the Trends charts and the color scale in Settings. Tap it and you get a plain-English explanation of what that section shows, where the data comes from, and what it can't tell you.

The bell tells you when it's muted

You can mute alerts for one location, or pause them everywhere. Until now the app didn't do a good job of showing which. A location card would cheerfully say "Alerts on" while that location was muted.

Fixed. The bell icon now shows a slash through it when alerts can't reach you — on the location card when that one location is muted, and in the top bar when you've paused everything. Tap the top-bar bell while paused and it explains why and takes you to Settings.

We also renamed "Pause all notifications" to "Pause all alerts", and fixed some AQI numbers on the Recent Alerts list that were nearly unreadable in light mode.
